"In my very first paintings the dot was an important element.
I did several paintings entirely in the dot modality in the mid sixties, one of which was featured in the book Psychedelic Art, which used another of my paintings on the cover. Another dot piece was shown at the Whitney Museum during The Summer of Love show.
The dot as a primal form expresses the underlying unity of the ever-changing energy universe beneath the surface of all reality.
Recently, the dot has powerfully reasserted itself especially since visiting the ancient painted caves of southern France last fall.
Dots appeared in my work before the Australian painters became known in the wider world. I remember meeting some very different people on an excursion into the mystic.
The world was a sparkling, glowing, nightscape. We passed each other in our dreamwalks and saw each other with great clarity. Later I saw the Australian paintings and understood."
